Your Beoplay A9 1st Gen is delivered from the factory in 'Option 5', this means that it reacts to commands from the Beo4 and Beo5/Beo6. The Beoplay A9 1st Gen can use 3 different 'Option' settings:

Option 4 | Beoplay A9 1st Gen can only be operated with Beo4 and Beo5/Beo6 in LINK mode. Refer to the Guide for your remote control for more information. | Beoplay A9 1st Gen is placed in the same room as another audio system. |
Option 5 | Beoplay A9 1st Gen can be operated with Beo4 and Beo5/Beo6 also. | Beoplay A9 1st Gen is placed in a room with a video product or alone. |
Option programming with Beo4:

While holding the • button on Beo4, press LIST.

Let go of both buttons.

Press LIST and use the navigation button up or down to bring up OPTION? in the Beo4 display and press the centre button.

Press LIST and use the navigation button up or down to bring up A.OPT in the Beo4 display and enter the appropriate number (0, 4 or 5).
Option programming with Beo5/Beo6:

While holding the • button, press the center button to bring up the SETUP menu on Beo5/Beo6.

Let go of both buttons.

Press Option Pgm to bring up the Option Programming display on Beo5/Beo6.

Press the button that matches the zone in which the audio system is placed, for example, Audio Area.
