Your Beoplay A9 1st Gen is delivered from the factory in 'Option 5', this means that it reacts to commands from the Beo4 and Beo5/Beo6. The Beoplay A9 1st Gen can use 3 different 'Option' settings:

Option Remote control To be used when
Option 0 No Beo4 or Beo5/Beo6 operation. Beolit 12/BeoPlay A8/BeoPlay A9 should not work with Beo4 or Beo5/Beo6.
Option 4 Beoplay A9 1st Gen can only be operated with Beo4 and Beo5/Beo6 in LINK mode. Refer to the Guide for your remote control for more information. Beoplay A9 1st Gen is placed in the same room as another audio system.
