If your Beoplay S3 is connected to a computer via USB cable, you may not be able to mute the speakers using the computer’s mute function. You have to mute your speakers directly from the music programme you are using.
Alternatively, shortly press 
to put BeoPlay S3 in high power standby, as this will mute the speaker. Press the button again to bring back the sound.
