Rechargeable batteries naturally degrade over time and gradually lose performance. When a battery reaches the end of its life, it must be disposed of correctly.
The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol on the product, battery or packaging indicates that it must not be disposed of with household waste. Batteries must be collected separately for proper treatment and recycling.
This guide explains how to safely remove, store and dispose of used batteries.
Why should I dispose of batteries properly?
Recycling batteries is an essential part of waste prevention and environmental protection. Improper disposal of batteries poses serious environmental and health risks, as they may contain hazardous substances that can leak into soil and groundwater. Recycling helps prevent such pollution while supporting the recovery of valuable materials and the preservation of natural habitats.
How should I dispose of batteries?
If the battery is still installed in your Bang & Olufsen product, please follow the relevant product-specific disassembly or repair instructions before removal. You can find repair guidance here: https://on.beo.com/repair.
If you have questions regarding the procedure, please contact your nearest Bang & Olufsen retailer or our Customer Care for assistance. Replacement of parts requires care, the correct tools and appropriate technical knowledge.
Bang & Olufsen is not responsible for any damage resulting from improper handling.
If the battery cannot be removed safely, or if no removal instructions are available for your product, do not force the product open. Instead, hand in the complete product at an authorised collection point for batteries or waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
How do I prepare a used battery for disposal?
Please follow the steps below before taking a battery to a collection point:
- Switch off the product and disconnect it from power before removing the battery.
- Remove the battery only if the product is designed to allow safe removal and the correct instructions are available.
- Cover the battery terminals with non-conductive tape, especially for lithium batteries and button cells, to reduce the risk of short circuit or fire.
- Place the battery in a non-metal container or bag for transport and keep it away from loose metal objects such as keys, coins, screws or tools.
- Do not crush, puncture, deform, open or burn the battery.
- If the battery is damaged, leaking, unusually hot, swollen or deformed, do not place it in a standard collection box. Isolate it, keep it away from flammable materials, and contact your local waste service for guidance.
Temporary storage recommendations
If you need to store a used battery before taking it to a collection point:
- Store it in a cool, dry place.
- Keep it away from direct sunlight, heaters, radiators, ovens, and other heat sources.
- Store it in a non-metal container, separated from other batteries where possible.
- Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
- Do not leave loose batteries in pockets, drawers, bags or boxes where the terminals may touch metal or other batteries.
Where can I return my used battery?
You can usually return used batteries or products containing batteries through a municipal or other authorised collection point for batteries or electronic waste (WEEE).
For more information about battery and electronic waste disposal, recovery and local collection points, please contact your local municipality, waste disposal service, or the place of purchase.
